Japan storm leaves path of destruction

Northern Japan was battered by typhoon-force winds on Wednesday, while the rest of country is recovering from a storm that has left at least four people dead and hundreds injured.<br/> <br />In Miyagi prefecture, a 28-year-old nurse was killed by a falling tree.<br/> <br />National broadcaster NHK reported 150 kilomtre-per-hour wind gusts in parts of Miyagi as the storm moved north.<br/> <br />The gusts were on par with a category one typhoon.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) UNIDENTIFIED COMMUTER SAYING:<br/> <br />"It's the first time I've seen something like this, so I'm quite surprised."<br/> <br />The severe weather had knocked out power to over 200,000 homes as of Wednesday morning.<br/> <br />Public transport was also disrupted, with over 70 flights cancelled and northern-bound bullet trains temporarily suspended.<br/> <br />The low pressure system was expected to move out to sea by the end of Wednesday, with fair weather expected by Thursday.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
