A legend returns to Broadway.<br/> <br />For the first time in over 30 years the Broadway musical "Evita" returns to the 'Great White Way.'<br/> <br />The new production stars pop singer Ricky Martin and Broadway newcomer Elena Roger Michael Servers.<br/> <br />"Evita" tells the true story of Argentina's first lady Eva Peron, who was once considered one of the most powerful women in the world.<br/> <br />The original production of the show earned the show's creators Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice seven Tony Awards in 1980.<br/> <br />For Martin the opportunity to return to Broadway in an iconic role is overwhelming.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Ricky Martin, actor, saying:<br/> <br />"I am very thankful, a lot of gratitude because of the people that I am working with, the cast, directors, producers, choreographers, people that are guiding me in such a beautiful way and I am just allowing myself to be loved and cared for by an amazing audience every night. And it's been amazing, I'm honored to be back - as part of the Broadway community."<br/> <br />Elena Roger first played Eva in the London, but says performing on Broadway is a different experience.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Elena Roger, actress, saying (English):<br/> <br />"London was six years ago, so I was younger, so this feels different because I am old now."<br/> <br />The premiere drew some of the hottest stars to the carpet ... from Broadway and the Latin community.<br/> <br />Singer Ruben Blades actually auditioned for the role of Che for the first production, on the red carpet Blades and his wife shared the story.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Ruben Blades, singer, saying:<br/> <br />"I auditioned and then I got a call back and I didn't go."<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Luba Mason, Ruben Blades' wife, saying (English):<br/> <br />"They asked him to sing the song in a higher key, and he said, 'sure, with an operation."<br/> <br />Evita is playing at The Marquis Theater in New York City.<br/> <br />Alicia Powell, Reuters.
