Taliban gunmen launch multiple attacks in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, where gunbattles raged for hours.<br/> <br />They assaulted Western embassies in the heavily-guarded diplomatic area, and at the parliament in the west of the city.<br/> <br />Sporadic gunfire could be heard from different parts of the city.<br/> <br />The attack is one of the boldest on the capital since U.S.-backed forces removed the group from power in 2001.<br/> <br />The Taliban issued a statement saying tens of fighters were involved, armed with heavy and light weapons.<br/> <br />Their main targets were the German and British embassies, as well as the headquarters of Afghanistan's NATO-led force.<br/> <br />Afghan security forces, who are responsible for the safety of the capital, were scrambling to secure areas around the so-called green diplomatic section of the city centre.<br/> <br />A spokesman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force said via Twitter that there were no reports of casualties.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
