The UN Security Council voted unanimously on Saturday to send 300 unarmed military observers to Syria to monitor the ceasefire.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador and acting UN Security Council president saying:<br/> <br />"The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2043 of 2012."<br/> <br />The 15-nation body says it is open to taking more steps if violence in Syria continues.<br/> <br />The vote came hours after a U.N. mission to Homs --- the frontline of fighting between President Bashar al Assad's forces and the opposition.<br/> <br />Activists say shelling and gunfire stopped for the first time in weeks before authorities let the monitors into the city.<br/> <br />Deborah Gembara, Reuters
