Egyptian engineer Hani Dahi, executive director of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, said that the decision to terminate Egypt's agreement to provide natural gas to Israel was made following a business dispute with Israel, and had nothing to do with politics. He added that the Israeli side had not fulfilled its economic obligations, despite repeated requests. Israeli security officials said that Egypt had not provided clear answers on the matter. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu played the decision down on Monday, saying it was the result of a commercial dispute. Netanyahu added that Israel has gas reserves that will make it totally energy independent, not only from Egypt, but from any other source- and will therefore turn Israel into one of the world's largest exporters of natural gas.
