Surprise Me!

Moe Baer and his Wardman Park Hotel Orchestra - Susianna

I chose the present version of this lovely song because it is performed brilliantly, yet by one of the obscurest bands of the 1920s. Actually nothing at all is known about them. These great musicians only cut one single disc in 1929, recorded in New York although their name suggests they played at the famous Washington DC hotel. The vocal is credited to a certain Richard Green. Nevertheless, I do not know whether it is just me, but this outstanding vocalist sounds very much like Scrappy Lambert, although obviously it is impossible to obtain definitive confirmation of this fact.
