From punk rocker to crooner. Iggy Pop's new album "Apres" is a collection of covers of classic songs, by artists like Frank Sinatra, the Beatles and Edith Piaf.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Iggy Pop, saying: (English)<br/> <br />"The American company would have preferred that I do a rock album with popular punks. Sort of like a 'Hi Dad!' sort of thing."<br/> <br />Launching the self-produced album in Paris, the 'Iggy and the Stooges' front man said he didn't want a record deal, because labels shouldn't dictate what people listen to.<br/> <br />He said he's embracing the freedom to sing what he wants.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Iggy Pop, saying: (English)<br/> <br />"From my point of view, I just don't care. I don't want to get in a box. I'll get in a box when I'm dead. I mean, look, I'm going to sing 'Search and Destroy' on Friday night in Marseille. Why can't I sing this and sing that?<br/> <br />Which is why, alongside the likes of "Le Vie En Rose" and "Only The Lonely", two of Iggy's own classics - "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "The Passenger" - will also appear on the album.
