Thousands march on a highway in Bahrain, calling for the release of prisoners.<br/> <br />They are seeking the release of a hunger-striking leader of the uprising whose detention has drawn international criticism.<br/> <br />The ruling monarchy has rejected calls for an elected government and parliament with full legislative powers. It has called the opposition lackeys of Shi'ite giant Iran.<br/> <br />Demonstrators say there is nothing unique about their demands.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED PROTESTER SAYING:<br/> <br />"Of course, our demands in Bahrain are the demands of everybody for years - democracy, change of regime, and the release of prisoners. These are the demands of everyone else in the world. We want the same things."<br/> <br />The demonstrations come as the United States said Friday that it will resume some military sales to Bahrain.<br/> <br />Bahrain has been the host of U.S. naval headquarters in the Gulf for more than 60 years and is seen key for U.S. efforts to deter Iran.<br/> <br />Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters
