As Barack Obama, the US president, weighs whether or not to send more troops to Afghanistan, there are questions as to whether the US approach is actually working. <br /><br />The United States' involvement in Afghanistan dates back to 1979. That is when Jimmy Carter, the former president, approved covert operations to support local fighters against the Soviet invasion. <br /><br />One of the architects of that programme was national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski. <br /><br />Josh Rushing sat down with him to get his take on the war, and finds out why he thinks the US made an error during the Afghan elections.
