The United Nations is due to convene a two-week forum on the situation facing the world's indigenous people.<br /><br />Hundreds of indigenous representatives from all over the world are expected to attend.<br /><br />Guatemala has one of the highest indigenous populations in Latin America. But after centuries of persecution, they remain some of the poorest in the region.<br /><br />Al Jazeeras David Mercer reports.
