ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: This year has already kicked off with a number of action hero movies, and with director Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman" actresses Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart prove that women can swing a sword and take a beating, too.

The modern adaptation of the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm celebrated its world premiere in London's Leicester Square on Monday (May 14).

Stewart and Theron were joined by many of their co-stars on the carpet, which was transformed into a fairy tale like scenery, complete with leaves, trees, mushrooms and black ravens.

Stewart, who wore a floor-length black-lace Marchesa dress at the premiere, plays young Snow White. She had previously described her character as a 'badass' heroine, but as she told Reuters Television she found it important to give a balanced portrayal of her character, who is also a pure good person.

"Action hero girls do stuff that a girl could never do. And even what you see us do in the movie we can do you know I think the strength of a woman we're not built to be strong physically, it's all about being steady and knowing yourself. It's a different thing if you know what I mean. So it's like if you're gonna outsmart someone or be quicker than them that's better than like punching them in the face or something."

Stewart admitted that the physical part of her role felt sometimes a bit overwhelming.

"I love challenging myself physically. But I have to say the reason that they hire big burly guys to do these action movies is because it is hard. Like I killed myself -- I was a dead person by the end of it," she joked.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" opens in UK theatres on May 30 and in the United States on June 1.
