One view that stands clear and is almost permanently etched on the memory screens of almost all tourists to Diu & Daman is the towering presence of the Light House and the magnificent view it provides if one is standing during sunset at the Daman Ganga River Bridge.

Though the monument provides a reminder of the erstwhile rulers, it is still revered as a major landmark of the city. The Light house is located within the Fort, and was constructed with a view to provide a ready guidance and bearing fix to all inbound and outbound sea traffic.

On the northern side within the confine of the fort were located the palaces, the secretariat and other official buildings. A large number of Portuguese gentry and their families resided within the fort. The recently built circular road is like a necklace round the Fort. It is now a popular promenade.
