Iraq Sunni fighters fear US pullout

Al Qaeda has apparently found a new number one enemy in Iraq since the US fully ended its combat mission there on Tuesday. <br /><br />An armed group of Sunnis - known as Awakening Councils or Sahwa - say they have become the main target of attacks from Al Qaeda. <br /><br />The Sahwa, many of whom used to fight US-led coalition forces in Iraq before switching sides, took up arms against Al Qaeda late in 2006 until 2008 with the support and backing of the foreign troops.<br /><br />They have been credited with helping reduce violence across the country, but now many members of the group fear the consequences of the departure of US troops. <br /><br />Al Jazeera's Mike Hanna reports from Baghdad, Iraq's capital.<br /><br />[September 2, 2010]
