IAn acute shortage of water in parts of India has left an estimated 250,000 people in the Satara district of western Maharashtra state suffering through drought conditions.<br />Although the Urmodi river flows through the area, a lack of properly constructed channels makes accessing its water increasingly difficult.<br /><br />For many residents of the region, the monsoon rains are their only hope.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Sohail Rahman reports from Satara.
