A memorial to slain British policewoman Yvonne Fletcher, shot outside the Libyan embassy in London in 1984..

The 25-year-old was apparently hit by a shot fired from inside the embassy during a demonstration against former Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi.

Ten protesters were also injured by bullets on that day.

But no one has ever been brought to justice for the killing, which led to an 11-day siege and Britain cutting diplomatic ties with Libya.

On Friday, Libya's interim prime minister Abdurrahim El-Keib made an historic visit to Fletcher's memorial.

He laid a wreath of white roses and carnations at the site, placed at the exact spot where she fell.

His visit comes amid news that a Scotland Yard team is set to fly to Libya to investigate Fletcher's murder.

El-Keib has said that Libya will work closely with the UK on the new investigation.

Sunita Rappai Reuters
