A US law called "Don't Ask , Don't Tell," forbids anyone who is openly gay or lesbian from serving in the military.<br /><br />As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama, the US president, promised to overturn it. <br /><br />But since his election more than 300 soldiers have been discharged because they are gay.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Cath Turner explains.
