More than 40 years after the massacre by US troops of villagers in Mai Lai in Vietnam, the only soldier convicted over the atrocity has apologised.<br /><br />About 500 villagers were shot, mutilated and raped by American soldiers from Charlie Company in the early morning of March 16, 1968.<br /><br />Survivors of the massacre say the apology was "too little and too late".<br /><br />But for Vietnamese youth, the war is part of history.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Laura Kyle visits the village, where much has changed regarding feelings towards the US.
