A bestseller in the book charts worldwide, The Kite Runner was an introduction to Afghanistan for many people.<br />Its author, Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini, drew on his childhood experiences of growing up in the capital, Kabul.<br />He is now back in Afghanistan as a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency.<br />Al Jazeera's James Bays caught up with him in the city of his birth.
