The US president and his national security team have held a sixth meeting at the White House to examine future strategy in Afghanistan.<br /><br />Barack Obama and his team are looking at a proposal to send about 40,000 extra troops to <br />Afghanistan, as requested by General Stanley McChrystal, the senior commander of US and Nato <br />forces in Afghanistan.<br /><br />John Kerry, the chair of the foreign relations committee in the US senate, has also supported <br />the call for more troops to be deployed - if the conditions are right.
