Choppy seas off Georgia's Atlantic coast.<br/> <br />Tropical Storm Beryl cut a path across the southeastern United States on Monday, after making landfall in Florida.<br/> <br />The second named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season reached as far as North Carolina, and created a risk of inland flooding.<br/> <br />Here in Jacksonville, Florida high winds downed trees and power lines - and forced many people to cancel their holiday plans for Memorial weekend.<br/> <br />Beryl peaked near hurricane strength as it made landfall near Jacksonville Beach, packing winds of 70 miles per hour.<br/> <br />That was just shy of the 74 mile per hour threshold that would have made it a Category 1 hurricane.<br/> <br />By late Monday no storm-related deaths or injuries had been reported.<br/> <br />The Atlantic hurricane season officially starts on June 1.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
