Weak US gun laws remain unaddressed

It has been a year since a mentally ill gunman critically wounded US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others - including a US federal judge.<br /><br />The fatal incident spurred President Barack Obama to call for a national dialogue over gun laws, there has been little further discussion. There are bills currently in Congress that seek to outlaw magazines for high-capacity handguns, but so far they have been able to garner sparse support from lawmakers.<br /><br />Instead, the House of Representatives recently passed legislation forcing states with tight gun controls to honour concealed-carry permits issued by other states.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports from Washington, DC, the US capital.
