Iraq lawmakers' pay under scrutiny

It has been more than two months since Iraq's general elections that have failed to bring about an effective government.<br /><br />While the recount of votes continues, the 325 members of the outgoing parliament continue to draw relatively gigantic salaries, which is further angering a public already frustrated by the drawn-out political uncertainty.<br /><br />The annual salary of an Iraqi MP is almost 40 times the estimated average yearly income of an ordinary resident.<br /><br />The commission that monitors government integrity has called for the amounts paid to the officials to be reviewed.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Mike Hannah reports from Baghdad, the Iraqi capital.<br /><br />[May 8, 2010]
