Rights groups oppose Indonesian force's US training plans

Indonesia is keen for its controversial elite military force, the Kopassus, to once again receive training in the United States.<br /><br />The Kopassus was banned from training there after the passage of a 1997 US law that prohibited contact with units alleged to have committed human rights violations.<br /><br />Now the Indonesian government says it has taken action to stem alleged abuses by Kopassus members, but rights groups disagree.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen reports from Jakarta on the controversy.<br /><br />[March 21, 2010]
