Sudan opposition mulls poll boycott

As Sudan prepares for national elections set for April 11, tensions are rising as some opposition groups call for a postponement of the poll date and threaten to boycott the vote. <br /><br />They claim that it is not the right time to hold elections as many candidates have not been given the fair opportunities to carry out a significant electoral campaigns in the volatile country. <br /><br />But Omar al-Bashir, the president, has accused authorities in the previosuly independent south of obstructing his campaign efforts.<br /><br />He has warned that a boycott could result in the cancellation of next year's referendum on independence for South Sudan.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow reports from Khartoum.<br /><br />[March 30, 2010]
