2012-06-01 2 Dailymotion

Iraqi security forces are on high alert after a series of attacks on foreign embassies in Baghdad in which more than 40 people were killed and 200 injured.

The government has blamed al-Qaeda and members of the Ba'ath Party for Sunday's attack, but others say the attacks were a political message linked to the ongoing negotiations to form a new government.

Christopher Hill, the US ambassador to Iraq, said on Monday that Iraq's security situation has improved overall, but that the attacks show "small terrorist cells" still exist within the country.

But he told Al Jazeera's Imran Garda that the incident also indicates that Iraqi politicians have tough negotiations ahead to form a new government.
