It has been 19 years since the US and Russia signed the first Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (Start) which helped secure an end to the arms race during the Cold War.<br /><br />Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president, and Barack Obama, his US counterpart, are set to meet in the Prague on Thursday to sign a new disarmament treaty that will replace the one that expired in December.<br /><br />The Start deal aims to reduce the number of nuclear warheads in both countries by 30 per cent.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Neave Barker reports from Moscow on the treaty that could affect the "overall situation of the planet."<br /><br />[April 8, 2010]
