The expanding oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico is starting to reach the US coastline, threatening five states and thousands of kilometres of wildlife habitats.<br /><br />A state of emergency has been declared by the governors of Alabama, Florida as well as Louisiana while two other states are at risk. <br /><br />Over the last five days, the slick has increased significantly in size. And forecasts show the affected area nearly doubling.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports on the unfolding crisis from Venice, Lousiana.
