Palestinian leaders in the West Bank have agreed to restart indirect talks with Israel, although the continuing expansion of illegal Israeli settlements remains a major sticking point.<br /><br />Known as proximity talks, the negotiations will be mediated by George Mitchell, the US special envoy to the Middle East, in a bid to narrow the differences between Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, and Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister.<br /><br />But opinions are divided on the proximity talks among Palestinians themselves, with Hamas leaders in Gaza saying the talks are an Israeli trap.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.
