Amnesty International 'Urgent Action' for Falun Gong Practitioner and Sister

Amnesty International released an 'Urgent Action' document regarding the case of Wang Xiaomei and her brother, Wang Xiaodong.<br /><br />Wang Xiaomei, also known as Wang Junling, was detained last weekend, after her efforts to free her brother, a prisoner of conscience, caught the attention of Chinese authorities.<br /><br />Authorities detained Wang Xiaodong on February 25 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual meditation discipline that has been banned in China since 1999. <br /><br />Wang Xiaomei has actively sought her brother's release by writing an open letter and starting a petition. She collected signatures and thumbprints from members of 300 families in their home village, Zhouguantun. <br /><br />The Zhouguantun village committee stamped the petition, and a source told the Epoch Times newspaper that it was circulated in the highest levels of government. <br /><br />Amnesty International has begun a letter writing campaign that will end on July 12.
