The Catalan parliament in Spain is voting on Wednesday whether to ban bullfighting in their region.<br /><br />This quintessentially Spanish pastime is already banned in the Canary Islands where animal rights campaigners had triumphed to ban the sport.<br /><br />But for many Catalans, a move against bullfighting is not just about cruelty to animals, it is also about asserting their identity.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports from Barcelona.
