A UN war crimes tribunal has convicted two former Croatian army generals for the persecution and murder of ethnic Serbs during the 1990's.<br /><br />Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac were sentenced for their roles in the four-year war between Croatia and Serbia, started when Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia.<br /><br />In August 1995 they launched Operation Storm, seizing back control of Croatia's Krajina region from ethnic Serb separatists. <br /><br />More than 300 Serbs were killed in the operation and about 90,000 were forced to flee. <br /><br />Al Jazeera's Paul Brennan reports.
