More than two decades after the toppling of Communist rule and almost four years after joining the European Union, Romania remains one of the continent's poorest countries.<br /><br />In the next few weeks the International Monetary Fund is expected to make available emergency funds of more than $1bn.<br /><br />The money is only the latest in a series of installments to help the nations' struggling economy .<br /><br />Barnaby Phillips reports from Bucharest.<br /><br />[August 24, 2010]
