US Senate passes 'indefinite detention' bill

The US Senate has passed the National Defence Authorisation Act, which contains a controversial bill allowing so-called terror suspects to be detained indefinitely, without trial.<br /><br />US President Barack Obama will sign the act into law, according to his administration. But critics say by doing so, the president has reneged on a campaign promise to protect civil liberties.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from Washington, DC.
