Sandusky guilty on child sex charges

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's been convicted of all but three of the 48 charges of child sex abuse against him.<br/> <br />He was accused of abusing ten boys over a period of 15 years.<br/> <br />Pennsylvania State's attorney general says it's a victory for justice.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: PENNSYLVANIA STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL LINDA KELLY SAYING (English):<br/> <br />"...have worked tirelessly for the last few years to bring these charges to light, to bring this case to court and to see the day that this defendant, a serial child predator who committed horrific acts upon his victims causing lifelong and life-changing consequences for all of them, has been held accountable for his crimes."<br/> <br />Sandusky's defence attorney also spoke after the verdict was delivered.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: JOE AMENDOLA, DEFENCE ATTORNEY FOR JERRY SANDUSKY, SAYING (English):<br/> <br />"The Sandusky family is very disappointed, obviously, by the verdict of the jury but we respect their verdict."<br/> <br />Sandusky, seen here in file footage, was indicted by a grand jury last November and the firestorm began.<br/> <br />Legendary head coach Joe Paterno was fired for failing to intervene more forcefully when allegations first came to light years earlier.<br/> <br />University president Graham Spanier was also sacked.<br/> <br />Two other former officials face trial for perjury and other offences.<br/> <br />Sandusky now faces the prospect of a jail term, possibly running into hundreds of years.<br/> <br />Penn State says it's planning to invite his victims to discuss the resolution of claims against the university<br/> <br />Paul Chapman, Reuters
