Mohamed Morsy is Egypt's newest president.<br/> <br />On Sunday afternoon, Egypt's electoral commission announced that the Muslim Brotherhood's backup candidate beat out Mubarak's last Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik.<br/> <br />Long banned under Mubarak's National Democratic Party - Morsy himself served considerable time in Egyptian prisons - the Muslim Brotherhood now occupies for the first time the country's highest post.<br/> <br />But despite the victory, many worry the president will wield little, if any, meaningful power.<br/> <br />Last week the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament, in a move seen by many as a step toward cementing its own iron grip on Egypt, and continuing decades of autocratic rule.<br/> <br />And with still no constitution, the presidential powers can be decided almost entirely by the military junta.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
