Uggie - the star dog of the Oscar-winning film "The Artist" - officially retired from showbiz on Monday (June 25), but went out with a bang. The talented pup put his paws in cement at the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre - planting him next to the hand prints of Hollywood's royalty and making him the first dog to leave a lasting mark at the theater.

His trainer, Omar Von Muller, was honored by the recognition.

SOUNDBITE: Omar Von Muller, Uggie's trainer, saying (English):

"This has been a rush. This has been incredible. All the success in Uggie, everybody says that I'm a great trainer, I think he's just a great dog."

After placing his paws in cement, Uggie posed for pictures - getting a little help from his celebrity pooch friends, the current Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.

It was also declared "Uggie Day" in Hollywood in honor of the celebration.

Bob Mezan, Reuters.
