I'm just a bit more patient with myself and other people. I'm not as expectant as I used to be. I'm more aware of my flaws and my failures and my disappointments. I know what it is that I do wrong in relationships, which seems to be the theme of all my songs. I'm not naive anymore. A bit more worldly. Life happened!"

On The Importance Of Passion:
"My favorite singers are very passionate. It's important for me to be a passionate performer and a passionate singer."

On Writing:
"Whenever I try and plan to sit down to write something, nothing ever ever comes. That's a running theme from the first album. I have absolutely no structure. Usually the idea comes to me when I'm not ready for it -- late at night or having a glass of water. I've got to be a bit patient and wait it out."

On Lonely California Nights:
"Recording in Malibu was pretty isolating, really. It was just me, the band, Rick [Rubin], and the engineers. We could have been in 1950 or 2090. It was just all about the song and about the music. It was all about creating a vibe and just going with our instinct. That was really quite inspirational."
