Human Rights Watch, the New York-based rights organisation, has called on China to provide more humanitarian assistance for ethnic Kachin refugees from Myanmar. <br /><br />About 10,000 people had fled from Kachin, a northernmost state in Myanmar, to neighbouring China after fighting between rebels and government troops ended a 17-year ceasefire last year.<br /><br />The total number of those displaced by the conflict has reached 75,000.<br /><br />As Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay says in this exclusive report from Bangkok, the refugees are facing a worsening situation with regard to basic needs, including food and shelter, in squalid camps in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan.
