Britain's Queen Elizabeth unveils a memorial to the tens of thousands of airmen who died in the Second World War.<br/> <br />The Bomber Command Memorial in London's Green Park remembers the sacrifice of the 55,573 British Royal Air Force crew who lost their lives in the war.<br/> <br />The design of the memorial's roof is inspired by a Vickers Wellington aircraft and incorporates sections of aluminum recovered from a bomber plane shot down over Belgium in May 1944.<br/> <br />The ceremony concluded with a flypast by the bomber command's last flying Lancaster Bomber, which dropped poppies over the park as a message of remembrance for those who died.<br/> <br />The Bomber Command was formed in 1936 with a mission to attack German airbases, troops and industrial complexes connected to the war effort.<br/> <br />Sarah Sheffer, Reuters
