No deaths have been reported.<br/> <br />The region is home to the mainly Muslim Uighur people, local media say.<br/> <br />Witnesses said the shaking lasted about 10 seconds and forced some people to rush out of their homes into the streets.<br/> <br />According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was very shallow, only 11.2 (18 km) below the Earth's surface.
