It is owned by an American Greetings Card Company that specializes on both greeting cards and toys. Strawberry Shortcake became a hit in the mid 1980's that the company expanded its product line. They included dolls as well as posters of Strawberry Shortcake along with her friends and pets.<br /><br />The first design of Strawberry Shortcake and her cat Custard was done in 1977 by a greeting card illustrator Muriel Fahrion.
