He attempted the stunt in Pingjiang County, in the Chinese province of Hunan.<br /><br />Aisikaier made the death-defying attempt about 660 feet above ground, with his eyes covered, taking no safety precautions and using only a 20-foot pole to help him balance. About 100 feet from the end, he lost his footing and fell. Miraculously, he was hardly hurt.<br /><br />The tightrope was supposed to be fastened with cables every 50 feet, but due to the terrain, the cables towards the end were attached 92 feet apart—causing the tightrope to sway in the wind as Aisikaier walked backwards.<br /><br />The high wire, or Dawa Zi, is a traditional Uyghur high-wire performance art. Aisikaier is a sixth-generation performer.
