"Republic of NGOs", "crime-ridden", "cursed"... this is how the media often describes Haiti, overshadowing the country's rich cultural identity.<br /><br />As the nation marks its one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that left more than 230,000 people dead, many Haitians are fighting to break the negative stereotypes.<br /><br />On Tuesday's Riz Khan, we speak with renowned Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrié; and Huguens Jean, whose directorial debut Lif Up follows his journey back to Haiti two months after the earthquake.<br /><br />Dr Laurent Dubois, a historian and the co-director of the Haiti Lab at Duke University also joins the programme.
