Barack Obama, the US president, has started a five-day tour of South America where he hopes to improve ties with the region. <br /><br />It is his first trip to Latin America as president. <br /><br />He is expected to visit Brazil and Chile, ending the trip in El Salvador.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from Brasilia.
