The first Cricket World Cup 2011 semifinal saw co-hosts Sri Lanka face New Zealand.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Rahul Pathak previewed the match from the seaside capital of Colombo, where he spoke to Sidath Wettimuny - part of the Sri Lankan side that went from associate to Test status in 1982.<br /><br />This semifinal was a repeat of the 2007 tournament when the teams met at the same stage. <br /><br />New Zealand have never gone beyond the World Cup semifinals, while Sri Lanka were looking for their second-consecutive final appearance. <br /><br />They also won the tournament on home soil in 1996 - an incredible achievement for a team who had only been in cricket's top tier for 14 years.
