In the Democratic Republic of Congo, campaigning for Monday's national elections is drawing to a close.<br /><br />One of the candidates running for a seat in the country's national assembly is Ntabo Ntaberi Sheka, a rebel group leader who has been formally charged with crimes against humanity over his alleged involvement in the mass rapes of 387 people in 2010.<br /><br />But as Sheka staged his only campaign rally in the Walikale district of the North Kivu province, he told Al Jazeera he was only defending his people.<br /><br />In this Al Jazeera exclusive, Sheka spoke to Al Jazeera's Peter Greste in Walikale.
