Australia's economy is booming, but youth unemployment remains a big problem, with more than half of the population aged between 16 and 24 without work.<br /><br />Within some remote communities, youth unemployment has reached more than 50 per cent. It is particularly high within immigrant communities and among the country's indigenous population.<br /><br />But as Al Jazeera's Andrew Thomas reports from Melbourne, hope exists in the form of a government-sponsored programme designed to teach young Australians the skills that will lead to employment.
