In December 1911, the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and four members of his team were the first to arrive at the southernmost tip of the globe.<br />They planted a Norwegian flag at the pole to mark their epic victory over British adventurer Robert Scott.<br /><br />On Wednesday, Norway's prime minister and several hundred scientists and adventurers gathered at the South Pole to celebrate the 100-year-old conquest.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Bhanu Bhatnagar reports.
