A man and woman have been jailed in the United Kingdom for beating their daughter because she was dating a black man.<br /><br />Jane Champion, 17 at the time of the attack, was repeatedly punched in the face and had her hair pulled by parents David and Frances in a racist assault, reports the Daily Mail.<br /><br />Her boyfriend Aflonce Ncube was kicked in the legs and verbally racially abused.<br /><br />Mr Champion, of Swansea, was jailed for 12 months and his wife for ten months.<br /><br />The first attack occurred when Mr and Mrs Champion returned to their house to find their daughter with Mr Ncube, reportedly in a 'state of undress'.<br /><br />Mr Champion shouted racist abuse at him before kicking him and pushing him out the door.<br /><br />He then started to hit his daughter for "bringing shame to the family", a court heard.<br /><br />The second attack occurred a month later when the parents confronted their daughter in a bar and asked her if she was still with Mr Ncube. When she said she was, Mr Champion punched her in the face, Swansea Crown Court heard.<br /><br />The court also heard her mother said: "You deserve it. It is all your fault" before starting to assault her daughter.<br /><br />Mr and Mrs Champion then went to look for Mr Ncube, who worked as a waiter in a Swansea restaurant. He hid as they banged on the window, until they were eventually removed.<br /><br />Judge Peter Heywood said: "We live in a liberal and enlightened society and these sorts of racist behaviour cannot be tolerated.<br /><br />"The way you reacted was totally inappropriate.<br /><br />"I would be failing in my public duty if I was to do anything other than to impose a custodial sentence."<br /><br />John Hipkin, defending David Champion, said: "It's not excusable in any way, shape or form but the circumstances in which he found his young daughter meant he reacted in a terrible way. Lessons have been learned."<br /><br />Georgina Buckley, defending Frances Champion, said the attack was "disgraceful".<br /><br />"She accepts her actions were fuelled by alcohol and that she confronted her daughter in a wholly unacceptable and disgusting way," she added.<br />"She is remorseful and her daughter has sent her a text message before the court hearing wishing her well."
