The Egyptian army moves into villages in the Sinai Peninsula Wednesday amid reports that militants are seeking safety in the area.<br/> <br />On Sunday gunmen killed 16 border guards in the bloodiest attack on security forces in Sinai in decades.<br/> <br />The militants have sworn to destroy Israel. They have stepped up attacks in the desert frontier following the uprising that toppled Egypt's government last year.<br/> <br />As the dead have been put to rest, Egypt's new government has tried to assure Israel that it will keep Sinai under control.<br/> <br />Sunday's attack was the bloodiest since 1979 when Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel, an accord which brought an end to a succession of wars between the two countries.
